SAP BTP: More than just a new platform
The SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) has arrived – and with it a question: Is SAP BTP merely an evolution or is there more to it? We take a closer look and explore SAP's new 'darling' from different perspectives in a small series.
As the successor to the SAP Netweaver platform, the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) is no stranger. The cloud-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution was developed by SAP to support companies in their digital transformation and optimisation of business processes.
With the significance of the cloud, the importance of SAP BTP has also increased. Today, the platform is THE technical foundation of the entire SAP Cloud ecosystem. Moreover, regarding many SAP solutions that will reach the End of Mainstream Support in 2027, as well as the successor solutions from SAP that will only be offered based on cloud services and new commercial models from SAP, customers should address this topic sooner rather than later.
We at SRB have, of course, done this. In a small blog post series, we want to delve into SAP BTP and examine it from various angles. In Part 1, we posed the fundamental questions that many ask when looking at SAP BTP.

More than just a platform
In summary, SAP BTP is undoubtedly more than just a new technical platform after Netweaver. It represents an evolutionary step that addresses the requirements of modern companies for integration, agility, innovation, and intelligent technologies. By enabling a comprehensive view of enterprise IT, SAP BTP significantly contributes to optimally positioning companies for the challenges of the digital era. However, the introduction of SAP BTP necessarily requires a series of further commercial and organisational changes and should therefore not be viewed solely as a technological innovation, but as a strategic step towards a forward-looking, integrated platform.
